[Cognate Application, 13,490/10.] Pencil-sharpeners.-Relates to pencil-sharpeners of the type in which a body part, which may be pressed or stamped from sheet metal, is formed with a cone hole and a longitudinal opening through which projects a flat blade. A flexible blade is fixed in a curved cutting position either by fitting it into a curved recess m the body, or by placing it upon a curved seating and screwing on or otherwise attaching a curved covering-plate. The sides of the hole in the body are curved inwards to the arc of a circle of less radius than that of the blade seating. Fig. 3 shows a form adapted to be attached to a pencil, the blade b being inserted in a recess c. Figs. 4 and 6 show a body stamped from sheet metal and comprising two parts e, e'. The part e is pressed to form a rib tapering away from the bottom end to the surface near the top end, and this rib is removed by grinding &c. to form a slot a<2>, except for a portion which forms a strip e<2> across the bottom. The part e<1> is stamped so that its edges e<4> fold over those of 'the part e and so that the two parts together form a hollow coned pencil-guide a', the upper end e<3> of which is preferably cut away. The blade b is secured between the parts e, e<1> so that its underside is supported close to its cutting-edge, which overlaps the slot a<2>. The part e may be dispensed with, in which case the pencil-guide is formed by one or more ears &c. on the part e, and the blade may be secured by clamping-lugs &c. The blades may be further secured by sweating or soldering, or by plating or coating the entire sharpener.
