9805. Birkett, I. R. E. April 22. Pivoted sliding windows; sliding sashes removable from frame. -Relates to means for balancing pivotedsliding or removable sashes. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 4, the cord C, secured at b<2>, b<3> to the sash stile, passes over pulleys c, c<1> on the pulley stile and under a pulley b<1> carried by the weight b. Each sash is balanced by a weight on each side of the frame, but the top sash is provided with pins d working in grooves a<1> in the pulleystiles. In the modification shown in Fig. 7, a single weight, on each side, serves to balance both sashes. The cord C<1>, attached at c<2>, e<6> to the pulley-stiles, passes around pulleys b<4>, b<5> on the lower sash, and pulleys d<3>, d<4> on the upper sash, over pulleys c<3>, e<5> on the pulley-stile and under a pulley carried by the balance weight.
