Abstract

8069. Manderer, F. June 30, 1909, [Convention date]. Cylinders.-An auxiliary clearance chamber c is put into communication with the cylinder b by an automatic valve d when the cylinder-compression pressure exceeds the initial pressure of the steam. When the cylinder pressure falls below the pressure of the atmosphere, the valve d is closed. The valve stem is connected to a weighted lever l, and carries a piston i which enters a cylinder k when the valve is open and closes a passage f open to the atmosphere. The initial and final movements of the valve are impeded and helped by the weight h. The final opening movement of the valve is effected partly by the steam pressure on the piston i, and the closing movement is effected by the pressure of the atmosphere on the piston i. In a modification, the lever l and weight h are replaced by a piston working in a cylinder, the ends of which communicate with the condenser and the atmosphere respectively.
