Abstract
30,459. Priestman, D. D. Dec. 30. Grab-buckets.-In a singlechain grab a, the upper and lower blocks c, c<1> are mounted to slide in vertical guides b. At the lower end of the guides is pivoted a catch d formed with extensions d<1>, d<2>, of which the extension d<1> is weighted. Lugs projecting from the lower block are engaged by the catch d. The projection d<2> supports a vertical rod d<3> which passes through the upper block. Assuming the grab to be full and the catch d in engagement with the lower block, if the grab be lowered, on touching the ground, the catch is disengaged by the rod d<3>. On hoisting, the grab is discharged, and during the upward movement of the upper. block it engages nuts on the rod d<3> and lifts the latter, allowing the catch d to fall back. On again grounding the open grab, the catch is engaged by the lower. block, and on hauling on the hoisting-rope the grab is closed on to the material.
