Skips. - Comprises means for opening and closing a bottom-discharge skip consisting of a body part a and a vertically-sliding bottom part b, which is provided with guide-rods c engaging guides in the body part. A pillar or rod g attached to the bottom is hinged at its upper end to one end of a rod h having two recesses j, j', the other end of the rod h being hinged to the bail e of the bucket. When the skip is loaded, the links are arranged as shown in full lines in Fig. 1, the ring i of the lifting-chain engaging the recess j. When lowered, the weight l swings the links over to the position shown in dotted lines; on hoisting again, the ring i slides along the rod h to the recess j<1>, and the body part is lifted away from the bottom, thus discharging the skip. On again lowering, the ring i engages the recess j, and the bucket may be hoisted while closed. A stop n is provided for the bail, a projection h<1> for preventing fouling of the rod h and ring i, and a cord m for keeping the ring i in the recess j when required.
