28,604. Santnanieff, C. Dec. 7. Indicators, alarm and signal.-The presence of water in a ship's compartments is indicated by a galvanometer A, in circuit with zinc and copper plates which become immersed in the water in the compartments H. The reading of the galvanometer indicates the depth of the water. The switch B connects all the compartments to the galvanometer, and the switch C can be used to determine the leaky compartment. When it is desired to fill one of the compartments of a ship, the apparatus may be used to indicate that the desired compartment is being filled.
