Abstract

Separators.-In order to separate lubricating- oil and diminish noise in rotary vane-pumps and the like, the air coming from the pump is forced to pass into and out of narrow slits so as to be drawn out into a thin band. In the form illustrated, the slits are formed by means of circular plates d mounted opposite flanged rings b by the aid of stay-bolts e and interposed springs or rings c of elastic material. Air from a pump (not shown) enters the passage a, passes radially outwards in the form of a thin band between the first flange and plate, then radially inwards, along the passage g, radially outwards again, and thence to the outlet k by way of a baffle-plate d spaced apart from the last circular plate. The casing which forms the two chambers f, h consists of two shells m, n and a partition o assembled together by bolts passing through holes p. The separated oil is drawn off through a cock.
