Abstract
1369439 Separating particles from gases HOCCOM DEVELOPMENT Ltd 18 Nov 1971 [20 Nov 1970] 55182/70 Headings BIT and B2P Particles, e.g. of oil, are separated from an aerosol by passing it through inlet 15 into a perforated rotor 13 which supports radial vanes 18, the rotor being driven by motor 11 at such a rate that the particles are precipitated on the vanes or the wall 21 of the rotor and are then thrown off onto a surrounding annular wall 22. The purified gas flows up to an outlet mesh 25 above the casing 10. The upward motion of the gas drives the separated. coalesced liquid up the inner surface of wall 22 so that it passes through inlet 24 to drain pipe 27. A layer of soft porous material may be provided on the inner face of wall 21, on the forwardly-facing surfaces of vanes 18, and on inwardly-facing surface of wall 22. Preferably the pores of the porous material are much larger than the particles to be removed from the aerosol. The porous material may be foamed polyurethane or polyethylene. Alternatively, a felt of fibrous material could be employed
