Abstract

26,953. Neil, J. Nov. 20. Grates. - Rocking firebars longitudinally arranged in the furnace are mounted in a frame which is supported so as to be free to expand and contract. The frame is formed of end sections B, D connected by side bars C, and is carried on brackets E, E<1> fixed to the sides of the furnace. The front section B is preferably bolted to the furnace front-plate, while the back end is free to move on the bracket E<1> to allow of expansion and contraction. The bars F are mounted on trunnions in bearings F<2>, and are made in two sections connected by a coupling-piece G supported on an intermediate bearer H. The bearer and bars are preferably formed as described in Specification 20,918/00, so that relative movement with the coupling- pieces is prevented. Longitudinal expansion ot the bars from the middle bearer H is allowed for by suitably enlarging the bearings.
