Traction engines, steam. - The boiler plates and brackets carrying the bearings on a traction engine are relieved of much of the stress due to the expansion and contraction of the boiler by carrying the bearings of the crank-shaft and second-motion shaft on brackets c provided with extensions d rigidly connected with horn-plates d<1>, which connect the bearings of the rear axle a and third-motion shaft b. The brackets c are connected by transverse plates l, n bolted centrally to the boiler but having sufficient flexibility to allow relative longitudinal movement between the boiler and brackets.
