Brick, pottery, and like kilns.-In kilns or ovens for firing bricks, tiles, pipes, china, and such like ceramic ware, the flues are so arranged that a portion of the fire-hole gases may be admitted to the interior of the kiln at a high position and may be regulated, while another portion is introduced through the floor. According to the arrangement shown in Figs. 1 and 2, one portion of the gases passes from the fire-holes A over partitions b<1> into radial flues 2 and an annular flue 1 communicating with a combustion chamber beneath the kiln floor. The top gases pass through damper controlled openings in a partition into extensions of the pockets B, which are covered by perforated plates f, and may be provided with perforations b<2>. The gases escape from the kiln through a vertical flue N, and may pass to another kiln for drying green goods. The gases may pass from the flue N through apertures n<1> into a chimney O. In the modification shown in Figs. 3 and 4, part of the gases from the fire-holes A pass through dampercontrolled openings in a partition h into an annular chamber between inner and outer walls g<1>, G and through a perforated partition h<1> into the upper part of the kiln. The remainder of the gases pass over vertical partitions into flues l<1> leading to radial flues l<2>, which communicate with an annular flue L in the floor of the combustion chamber M. The annular flue may be provided with fixed or detachable perforated covers m<1>, through which the gases issue into the combustion chamber.
