Abstract

Multiple-chamber kilns.-An oven or kiln for the ceramic industry, of the kind in which an alternate heating and cooling of the whole charge is effected is provided, as shown in Fig. 1, with a central heating or baking chamber 3 containing an outlet at the bottom leading to the chimney flue 4 and surrounded by one or more concentric chambers 1 of circular, rectangular, hexagonal, or like form. Hot gases from furnaces 2 pass radially through the annular chamber 1 and through openings 5 in the partition, wall 3' to the central chamber 3. Doors 6 are provided in the peripheral walls of the oven, and doors 7 are provided in the partition wall 3<1>. Openings 8, 8<1> in the roof facilitate the cooling and ventilation of the oven. The annular chambers may be divided into compartments by radial partitions. The arrangements of the chambers as described above is stated to facilitate the construction of the roof of the oven, which is formed of an arch extending over the annular chamber and a dome covering the central chamber.
