Abstract
21,218. Andronikoff, Prince Z. Sept. 16. Couplings, automatic, of the type in which a pawl, pivoted on the end of the coupling-element rides over and engages with the opposite coupling-element. The coupling-element consists of a frame A carrying the pawl B, which slides over and engages the saddle C of the frame A of the opposite vehicle. In the uncoupled position, the pawl B hangs vertically downwards, the saddle C pressing against its curved upper surface. When two vehicles meet, the pawl B of the upper frame slides over the saddle C and engages it. In swinging to the right, the pawl B is locked by the tooth 5 engaging the upper saddle C. When the draw-bars take the strain, the pawl B rises, by means of its slot 2, on the pin 3 into such a position that the tooth 5 cannot pass back over the step of the saddle C. For uncoupling, the cam 12 is turned, draws back the saddle C, and releases the pawl B.
