Couplings, automatic, of the kind in which twin elements coupling by horizontal swing are fitted with means for locking them in the coupled position, such elements being formed with vertical surfaces, which are inclined to guide the elements into coupling position, and with vertical engaging surfaces which are so inclined that, when the coupling is unlocked, the elements move laterally under a draught strain to uncouple. The coupling is locked by the mutual engagement. of a pair of blocks f, one carried by each coupler-head. When two vehicles come together, the pair of oppositelyinclined surfaces d<2>, e<2> on each coupler-head guide the parts into coupling engagement when the projections d<1> enter the recesses e<1>, and the blocks f which are first pushed back return by spring or gravity action to the locking position, Fig. 1.
