Abstract

21,180. Barbour, R. H. Sept. 16. Brushes. - A flexible brush adapted to be held stretched over a rotating conductor or collecting- ring consists of a core a of very fine copper or other wire, which may be silver-plated, stranded, or otherwise formed into a tape or cord, and a cover or armouring b consisting of wire wound round the core a, or of rings slipped thereon. The wire forming the armouring b is preferably of a much larger gauge than that forming the core a. The armouring b may be made of german silver. In order to preserve the flexibility of the core, the turns of the armouring are slightly separated.
