Pile tables for sheet feeds.-In pile-elevating mechanism for sheet-feeding machines, two independent raising and suspending devices are provided, whereby, as soon as one table is empty, a second can be loaded and brought rapidly into position for attachment to the primary raising- device, which feeds the pile slowly as the sheets are removed by the separator. The auxiliary raising-device comprises four chains 41<a> attached by pins to slotted bars 14 beneath the table 15, and wound on sprocket-wheels 43 on a tubular shaft concentric with the shaft 47. This shaft is rotated by a pinion 49<a> on a band-operated shaft 46<a>, which is prevented from returning by a pawl 50<c>. The table having been raised by this means, it is detached from the chains 41<a> and secured to a second series 41 wound on sprocket-wheels fast on the shaft 47, driven by gearing from a shaft 46, which is slowly rotated by a pawl 52 and lever 53 from some moving part, return motion being prevented by a pawl 54. The Specification in the original form, as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a), describes also a modification in which the auxiliary elevating- means comprises two vertical screws rotated by bevel-gearing from a shaft driven by belt from a suitable source of power.
