Abstract
21,026. Wanderer-Werke vorm. Winklhofer & Jaenicke Akt.-Ges. March 15, [Convention date]. Ink-ribbon mechanism ; ribbon-key actions.-Relates to multi-colour ink-ribbon mechanism of the kind in which the throw of the vibrator is controlled by a single key. The Figures show a known vibrator mechanism, wherein the universal bar 5 is mounted on a rock-shaft 4, and is provided with a pin 6 which bears on the arm 8 of a lever 9 connected by a link 10 to the rocking lever 12 of the vibrator 13. The arm 8 carries a pivoted jaw 16, which is held against the pin 6 by a weak spring 17, the arrangement being such that, when the keys are operated quickly, the universal bar makes full strokes, but the vibrator makes small strokes in front of the printing-point. (1) The means for changing the throw of the vibrator is of the following character. A two-armed link 18, 19 is mounted loosely by means of lugs 20 on the pin 6, the arm 18 being provided with a lateral pin 21 and the arm 19 being arranged over a lateral pin 22 on the arm 8. A rock-shaft 23 carries a lever 41, 42, the arm 41 being arranged in the path of an adjustable stop 43 on the link 10, and the arm 42 being provided with a hooked part which engages the pin 21 when the shaft 23 is rocked into the position shown in Fig. 7. When the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 1, the arm 42 is clear of the pin 21, and the link 18, 19 is idle, so that, when the universal bar is depressed, the vibrator presents the upper stripe or ribbon 14 in the ordinary manner. When the shaft 23 is rocked to the position shown in Fig. 7, the arm 42 engages the pin 21 so that the arm 19 of the link 18, 19 forms an extension of the universal bar 5, and by engagement with the pin 22 gives an increased throw to the vibrator 13, which now presents the lower stripe or ribbon 15. The vibrator is positively arrested in either adjustment by engagement of the stop 43 with the arm 41. An arm 34 on the shaft 23 operates a sliding arm 37 having a finger 38, which reads over two coloured indicating-stripes. (2) The means for rocking the shaft 23 consists of a member secured to the shaft and formed with arms 26, 27 adapted to be engaged by lateral pins 30, 31 on a lever 28, 29 which is pivoted loosely at the end of a keylever 32. When the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 7, and the key-lever 32 is depressed, gravity maintains the lever 28, 29 tilted to the right, so that the pin 30 rides up the arm 27 and engages a recess 25, thus rocking the member and the shaft 23 into the position shown in Fig. 1. When the key-lever 32 is released, the pin 30 rides down the arm 27 and tilts the lever 28, 29 to the left, so that on the next depression of the keylever, the lever 28, 29 is maintained tilted to the left by gravity, and the pin 31 rides up the arm 26 and engages a recess 24, thus rocking the member and the shaft 23 into the position shown in Fig. 7. In a modification, the lever 28, 29 is tilted during the return to the lower position by an arm on the member 26, 27 engaging a recess in the lever 28, 29. The shaft 23 is held in its two positions by a detent-roller 47, which snaps over a V-projection on a spring 48. The roller 47 may be carried by an arm 44, which is secured to the shaft 23 and is provided with screw-stops 46 for limiting the extreme positions of the shaft 23 ; or the roller may be carried by an arm on the member 26, 27.
