Abstract

19,916. Schneider, E. Aug. 31. Projectiles; projectile fuses.-Consists mainly in arranging a peripheral band of combustible composition in the form of rings 6 which are fired by a percussion fuse 2 at the moment the gun is fired, or by a time fuse, so as to burn simultaneously or in succession, and t o produce one or more flames by orifices 5, according to the disposition of the rings 6. The main charge 9 may be ignited on impact by a base percussion fuse 10 or after a given time by the rings 6, passages 15 being provided therefor and so arranged that the time may be varied by a proper setting of the rings 6. The main charge may comprise inflammable balls 16, Fig. 11, or may consist of a composition capable of giving a powerful flame; in such cases, the base of the main chamber is closed by a plug 17, which is easily dislodged outwards. The rings 6 are conveniently held between shoulders b, c and are secured by a rod 11, Fig. 7.
