Abstract

14,160. Smith, A. J., and Ferrari, G. F. Dec. 16. Bottles, washing.-Relates to machines for washing bottles &c. in which the bottle is thrust over a brush 20 secured to a hollow rotating spindle supplying the cleaning- fluid. The brush is fitted at the end of a perforated tube 17 removably held in a chuck 16 detachably inserted in the main spindle 11 rotated by treadle mechanism. The spindle is connected through a stuffing-box 12 with a pipe 32 supplied with steam and alkali through branches 33 and fitted with a valve 31. A cup 21 slidable on the tube 17 and containing baffles is pressed back by the bottle and opens the valve by means of an adjustable bracket 22 and sliding-bar 26. A shield 38 of tale and a sink 36 are provided.
