Self-driving machines.-A cylinder 3 containing a piston 19 for driving a bicycle through a connecting-rod and crank is supplied for the down-stroke with compressed air from a reservoir 2 through a sliding plug-valve 11, which is shifted at a stage in the down-stroke and at the end of the return stroke, the used air escaping by an exhaust port 21. The piston 31 of an air-compressor 4 for charging the reservoir through a non-return valve 32 is coupled to the driving-piston; and a hand-cock 10 is provided for cutting off the connexion for driving, leaving the compressor to be worked by the cyclist.
