Abstract

12,124. Lake, W. E., [Goss Printing Press Co.]. May 22. Delivery apparatus.-Paper is folded by pneumatically - operated mechanism of the kind described in Specification 12,122/09, [Class 100 (ii), Printing processes &c.], which is modified so that the paper, after being folded longitudinally, passes to a pneumatic folder mounted in a pivoted frame, which may be set so that the paper is delivered direct, folded with a "commercial" fold, or so that it may be directed to a second pneumatic folder for forming a "mail" fold. As shown, the paper is folded by a longitudinal folder, and is then cut by cylinders 49, 50, Fig. 1, formed with devices 53, 54, Figs. 3 and 4, which form a transverse crease in the sheet. The paper passes between guides 81 and is then forced between rollers 60, 61 by blow - pipes 59 formed to produce thin streams of air supplied from a pump 64 by a suitable arrangement of pipes and joints and a valve 68, all of which are arranged and operated similarly to the similar parts described in the Specification referred to above. The blowpipe 59 is arranged in a recess in a frame 55 mounted on a shaft 58, and the frame is turned by a handle 89 into the position shown in Fig. 3 when it is desired simply to form a "commercial" fold, or into the position shown in Fig. 4 when a "mail" fold is to be formed. The frame 55 carries the rollers 60, 61 into which the sheet is blown when the crease in the sheet comes opposite the rollers, and the folded product passes through a guide 82 which conveys the folded sheet to ordinary conveyers as shown in Fig. 3, or to a guide 114 and then to bands 115, 116 which convey the sheet into position below a blowpipe 124, Fig. 9, which, when the sheet is stopped by a stop 138, forces it between a slotted plate 122 into the bite of the folding-rollers 121, from which the finished product is delivered.
