Abstract
18,047. Fricker, F. G., and Bibby, J. T. Aug. 22. Paper and like bags, machines for making. The apparatus is more especially applicable for making paper bags by folding a sheet of paper around a rectangular former, and pressing two opposite sides of the paper tube inwards to form an accordion pleat as it is withdrawn from the former, as in the apparatus described in Specification No. 17,658, A.D. 1895. The former A, shown in crosssection in Fig. 3, may be adjusted in size to suit different sized bags by altering the relative positions of the parts a, b, c, d by screws or toggles. The part 58, Fig. 6, has an adjustable side h, which enables it to fit the former. The tube, when formed, is slid off the end of the former for a short distance, and has the top and bottom folds of the bottom of the bag made as in Fig. 10. The creasing is effected as the segmental rollers p, Fig. 8, press the top and bottom of the tube together and withdraw it from the former, by fingers o, o<1> mounted on a lever o<2> operated through bevel gearing o<5>, o<6>, an oscillating shaft o<7>, and lever o<8> by a cam o<9>.
