4246. Imray, O., [Farbwerke vorm. Meister, Lucius, & Br³ning]. Feb. 20. [Addition to 9855/08.] Samples furnished. Arsenoarylglycollic and arsenoarylthioglycollic acids are produced by treating arylglycol, and arylthioglycol-p-arsonic acids with strong reducing- agents, such as sodium amalgam or hydrosulphite. Arsenoxides may be produced by less energetic reduction. In one example phenylglycol-p-arsonic acid, in the form of its disodium salt, yields, on reduction with hydrosulphite, arsenophenylglycollic acid ; and in another example, phenylthioglycol-p-arsonic acid yields, on reduction with phenylhydrazine, phenylthioglycollic-p-arsenoxide, which, on further reduction with sodium amalgam, yields arsenophenylthioglycollic acids. Arylglycol- and arylthioglycol-p-arsonic acids are prepared from the oxyaryl-p-arsonic and thiophenol-p-arsonic acids respectively by combining with chloracetic acid. Phenylthioglycol-parsonic acid, for example, is produced by diazotizing p-aminophenylarsonate, beating with potassium xanthogenate and alkali, and adding chloracetic acid.
