Abstract
2959. Turner, E. Feb. 8. Homopolar or acyclic machines.-Direct-currentdynamos and motors of the homopolar type are provided with armatures composed of two sets of stampings, or stampings and castings, having projections adapted to screen certain portions of the armature coils and to convey the magnetic flux to and from the poles, and designed with respect to the field or inductor employed, so as to have the magnetic resistance of the field the same for any position of the inductor, by having a definite ratio between the armature projections and the polar pitch of the inductor. A cast armature or stator is shown in Figs: 1 and 2, slotted at e to decrease the reactance. The armature coils are so arranged as to be capable of supplying a number of circuits at different voltages ; and, when the machine is employed as a motor, the armature coils can be joined and grouped so as to give a wide speed range. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 7<a>, there are two coils 1, 1<1> in the same slot a, and the ratio of one and a half armature projections P to one inductor pole N is employed. The general arrangement of one form of machine is shown in Fig. 9. The revolving inductor m is of suitable form.
