Stamping.-The bodies and ends of furnace charging-boxes &c. are stamped from sheet metal in an hydraulic press, Fig. 1, having two pressing- cylinders 2 and one lifting-cylinder 4. The lower die 9 for stamping the bodies is in two parts adjustably held together by bolts 11 and secured by bolts and wedges 10 to the frame 5. The upper die 7 has holes 12 for pins which steady the blank by entering rivet holes therein, and hooks 14 are provided to lift the work out of the lower die when pressed. When stamping the ends, the die 7 is detached from the rams 8 and placed in the lower die 9, while the upper and lower end forming dies 16, 17 are secured to the rams 8 and die 7 respectively, as shown in Fig. 5. The dies form two ends at once, and pins 19 enter holes 20 in the plates to steady them. One stamped end 23, one cast end 24, and a stamped body 22 are assembled to form the complete box, Fig. 9.
