Abstract
27,844. Smith, J. Dec. 22. Sharpening.-A sharpener for knives and the like comprises a hardened steel block a, Figs. 1 and 2, having a V-groove b at an angle to the sides of the block, and attached to a case c having guide-slots d at right-angles to the sides of the block, so that, as the knife is drawn through the slots, the opposite sides of its edge are in contact with the two inclined edges of the V-groove at opposite sides of the block. The edges of the V-groove are rounded or bevelled. The sharpener may be fixed to a table or to a handle provided with a guard, or it. may be shaped to fit between the prongs of a carving-fork, Fig. 5, and held in position by a spring or other clip.
