Sights.-Relates to sights of the kind that are moved during elevation over an arc, the chord of which is approximately horizontal, and consists in cross-connecting them. The sights, one of which is shown in Fig. 1, are cross-connected by a shaft b<3>, shown in Fig. 2. The sight-carrier B has a curved rack b<1>, which slides over the arc A and with which a pinion b<2> engages when the handactuated gearing b<9>, b<5>, b<4> is operated. The wheel b<5> is attached to a range dial C, which is rotated when the sight is elevated for range so as to bring a fixed mark thereon into line with an electrically-actuated pointer C<1>, which is set from a distance and has its indications corrected for changes in muzzle-velocity &c. The mechanism for applying this correction consists of a bell-crank c<7>, c<9>, one arm c<9> of which engages with a spiral groove c'‹ on the range dial, the other arm c<7> being connected by a link c<5> to the casing of the pointeractuating motor C', so as to apply to the pointer C<1> a correcting- movement through worm gearing c<2>, c<3>. Deflexion about a pivot b<11> is given to each sight by turning a wheel b<14>, which operates crossconnected gearing. The pinion b<2> may be arranged concentrically with the range dial, and the arc b<1> may have its centre above instead of below the sight.
