Abstract

20,793. Alezina, J. Oct. 2. Ventilating.-The crown of a hat is divided into two parts K, L, Fig. 1, which carry slides so as to permit of separating or bringing the two parts together. A circular perforated plate Q may be employed to unite the two parts of the crown, or on openwork plaiting may be used, and it may be covered by the ordinary hat-band P. The slides consist of two metal plates A, B, Fig. 2, fixed one on each part of the crown and provided with claws which engage with the walls of the hat. One of the plates has a slot I, in which the shanks of the studs J fixed to the other plate are adapted to engage. The hat-band is preferably in two parts, or it may be formed in one piece of extensible material capable of allowing air to circulate. In a modification, the two parts of the crown are united by a thin perforated plate Q, Fig. 5, or by plaited straw. In the former case, parts stamped out and bent over may be employed to secure the plate to the hat. A small supplementary band U may be attached to the hat over the perforated plate Q. A small elastic band may be arranged to cover or uncover the perforated plate.
