Abstract

15,554. Br³nler, O. H. U. July 22. Oxygen, or air containing a considerable percentage of oxygen, is prepared in an apparatus comprising a number of pipes and tanks by the absorption of air in water and the passage of the solution to a suction device whereby the gases are withdrawn. The fractional absorption may be repeated. Water containing dissolved air may enter a tank k, Fig. 3, and may be passed by suction, applied at the pipe o, through the siphon l, n. The air, enriched in oxygen, leaves at the pipe o. The water may instead be passed into a tank a, Fig. 3, and through the siphon b, e to the tank k. The enriched air sucked off at the pipe d is readmitted by the pipes f, g through the water in the pipe e, which may have an auxiliary pipe i or not as desired. The re-dissolved air is then treated in the second siphon l, n as before described. Siphons may be dispensed with and the air drawn through pipes o, Fig. 4, into water in the pipe a, whence the solution passes on by suction through the siphon b, c, d. The enriched air from the pipe k returns at the pipe l and passes by the pipes p through the water in the pipe c. The solutiun passes on to the pipe c and vessel t, where suction draws off the still further enriched air at the pipe n. The liquid is forced back into the pipe a by way of the pipe s. Undissolved air carried into the tanks f, g are discharged at the valves h, i.
