Combustion Methods Of Internal-Combustion Engines
(AREA)
Abstract
15,166. Badger, J., and Whitaker, J. W. Jan. 16, 1909. Gas and like engines.-An engine has two cylinders A<1>, A' of different sizes arranged with their axes on opposite sides of the crank-shaft B, to which the pistons are connected by a forked connecting - rod D. The ports H<1> connecting the annular collecting-chamber G for the mixture with the crank case I which serves as a pump, and the ports H<4> H5 connecting the cylinders A', A' with the inlet and exhaust chambers J, K are controlled by the pistons C<1>, C<2>. The ports H<5> are opened before the ports H<4>, the gases passing only in one direction and thus scavenging the cylinders. Collars M' are formed on the crank-shaft to ensure gas-tight bearings.
