Abstract

14,953. Walton, F. July 14. Motor road vehicles.-The axles are constructed so that the encircling tubular supporting-cushions described in Specification No. 12,978, A.D. 1908, may be removed therefrom without previous detachment of the wheels. The axle A is formed with a cranked portion A' which terminates in two short horizontal portions A<2>, one of which constitutes the journal for the wheel, while the other portion is encircled by the cushion C, supported by a member a removably connected to the axle. The body is supported above the cushion by a bracket D formed with an open space D' through which the axle A passes. Radius rods a<1> are con - nected to the body at b<1> and to the two portions A, A<2>, respectively, of the axle, and are provided with adjusting-screws a<2>. Lateral movement of the body may be limited by cross-rods E', pivoted at one end to the body and connected at the other end to tubes E<2>, Fig. 3, which are formed with slots engaging pins E<5> on the axle. The tubes E' are fitted with springs E<3>, which bear against blocks E<4> on the pins E<5> and are adjusted by means of screw plugs E<7>, locked in position by screws E<8> engaging lugs on the tubes E<2>. India-rubber or other emergency springs F may be interposed between the body and axles, for use in case of deflation.
