Abstract

19,643. Heyenga, M. W. Sept. 28. Axles; steering.- To prevent the wheels from passing under the body of a buggy or other vehicle when making sharp turns, and to minimize shocks, the axle is formed with a centre portion 5, Fig. 2, to which the spindles 8 are pivotally connected by means of coupling - members 10. The parts of the axle are normally held in alinement by springs 16, mounted in brackets 15 fastened to the coupling-members 10 and adapted to be compressed by arms 7 attached to the spindles. The compression of the spring is limited by a stop 18, and the wheels are prevented from coming into contact with the body 6 by brackets 29. Fig. 5 shows a modified arrange. ment in which a bolt 31 passes through the arms 7 and through a slot 32 in the coupling-members 10'. A spring 33 is placed on the bolt 31, and is compressed when the spindles move out of alinement with the centre member 5. Shafts and poles.-To the coupling-member 10 is fixed a plate 20, slotted at 21 to receive the lugs 23, Fig. 8, of a thill block 24. The thill blocks may be adjusted longitudinally in the slots, and are attached to the shafts 19, Fig. 2, by pins 26.
