8701. Forsyth, W. D. April 21. Making lathing.- Expanding metal for use in holding plaster or for reinforcing concrete construction is made from a sheet which is split longitudinally in rows, each one consisting of transverse slits 2 and longitudinal slits 4, 5, 3, the slit 3 extending from the middle of the transverse slits up between the adjacent slits 4, 5. The tongues 8 formed between the slits 4, 5 are then bent up, and the pieces 7 are again bent so as to lie parallel to the plate, as shown in Figs. 2 and 4, after which the sheet is expanded as shown in Fig. 5.
