Abstract
3508. Barnes, A. Feb. 17. Carriage lamps; acetylene lamps.- An acetylene generator, particularly adapted to fit into a carriage lamp, comprises a water receptacle c, from which water passes by a valve l to a pipe which can be closed by a cock o and thence to a perforated tube k in the carbide container g. The valve l is normally kept o p e n by a spring m, but excessive pressure of gas closes the valve and stops the water feed. Gas generated passes by pipes q, q<1> to a pipe s, the lower end of which is closed, and through gauze; to a chamber v carrying the burner and provided with a safety valve v<2>. In the modified form of valve shown in Fig. 6, a casing l<4> surrounds the valve and stem, and water is admitted to the valve by a tube n<3>.
