3114. Baldwin, F. E. Feb. 6. Purifying gases.-The gas duct from the generator to the burner is provided with a movable constrictor or rod 20 so arranged and of such size as to maintain always the same size of passage for gas and to prevent the passage of particles of carbide that will not pass through the burner. This is effected by making the distance between the rod 20 and the wall of the passage 18 less than the diameter of the burner. Any collected particles are removed by turning the rod. The device is shown applied to a portable generator consisting of a carbide chamber 1 and superposed water chamber 2 from which water is supplied through a valve 9. The parts are secured. together by a thumb-nut 7 engaging a tube 4 depending from the bottom of the water chamber.
