The p u m prod D<1> is connected through a spring d<4> to a lever D<2> pivoted to a rod d<3> vertically adjustable in the frame d<1> of the apparatus, so that the stroke of the pump piston may be adjusted. The lever D<2> is operated by a cam G on the shaft G'. The pump may be provided with a valve-controlled return pipe, through which any hydrocarbon passing the plunger may return to the tank.
