27,745. Metzker, K. Dec. 16. Hinges door-closin g apparatus. - Relates to hinges which allow a door to be opened from eitber side. Each pivot 25, Figs. 1 and 4, mounted in the door frame, has a recess 28 on its underside, with which is adapted to engage a bolt 10 slidably mounted in a casing 4. The bolts are normally kept in engagement with the pivots by springs 21, these springs being carried by sliding pieces 8, 8<1>, which in turn are normally pressed forward by springs 9. The bolts 10 have cam-shaped surfaces 11, which engage the similarly-shaped ends of sliding pieces 16, 16', these sliding members being connected to the sliding pieces 8<1>, 8, respectively, by rods 18, 19. The covers 30 of the casings 24 have grooves 31 corresponding with the notches 28 of the pivots, these grooves or notches having curved surfaces 29, 33, 33', as shown in Fig. 4. By this arrangement, when one side of the door is pulled, the bolts 10 on that side are disengaged from the pivots, the bolts and pivots on the other side of the door being locked in engagement by the action of the sliding blocks. Springs 34 are arranged around the pivots to close the door automatically and return the pivots to their normal positions.
