Abstract
25,376. Clarke & Co., T., and Clarke, T. Nov. 25. [Cognate Application No. 5866, A.D. 1909, dated March 11.] Door and gate opening apparatus.-Sliding doors and gates such as those of lift wells are secured by means of struts. The strut 7, Fig. 1, is pivoted on the end of the gate, and lies within the plane of the gate, the free end 9 being engaged and free to slide in a channel-piece 10 fixed to the door frame. When the handle 11 is pressed down, the strut is moved from the fastening position, and at the same time the gate is opened. In a modified form shown as applied to a collapsible gate the bar is pivotally fixed at both ends to the gate and the frame respectively and is jointed in the middle. In the form shown in Fig. 6, the strut 7 is pivoted to the frame and is operated from the fastening position by means of a pivoted lever 14 having a forked end 16 engaging the roller 9 on the strut and operated by the sliding bar 18 and link 17. A drop piece 23 prevents the return of the lever 14 until the gate is again closed. A guard piece 25 prevents the operation of the handle 20 from outside. When the lift is operated by electricity, the hinge of the strut is provided with a switch which is in the main circuit and which is closed when the strut is in the fastening position so that the cage cannot be moved until the well door is closed and fastened.
