Boxes for incandescent gas mantles have a false bottom or flange a, Fig. 1, and a loose piece c, which clip the mantle lugs against the bottom of the box, the piece c being retained by a falling side of the box. In a modification, the false bottom is reduced to two ledges, and a cardboard or like carrier p, Fig. 2, is used having flaps r, which fold down over the lugs. The carrier is pushed into position under the two ledges, and one of its flaps may have a central tongue-piece, which is wired down, the end portion of the flap forming elastic wings for retaining the lugs.
