4698. Brown, G. Feb. 26. Folding boxes.- A modification of the folding box described in Specification No. 685, A.D. 1907, is made from a cardboard or strawboard blank, which is cut and scored as shown, and the lid is formed in two parts d, d<1>, which may overlap, or the part d<1> may have an attached strip d<2> to form a socket for the edge of the part d. In another arrangement, one half of the lid may be cut transversely, so that the other half may be slipped under and over alternate portions thereof, or both halves may be cut. The lid has extensions or end pieces e having semicircular cuts f. The box folds as shown, the parts g falling outside and engaging with the cuts in the end pieces e, or the end pieces may have attached portions forming sockets for the parts g. In modified forms of the box, the cuts f in the end pieces e may be diagonal to receive the corners of the parts g, and the parts g may carry metal clips, which engage with slits in the parts e when the box is folded. Eyelet-holes and strings may be used as described in the prior Specification, or the box may be wrapped in an outer covering and tied in the usual manner.
