Description

Apr. 17, 11923. 1,45L888 .1.5. PARKE y Patented Apr. l?, l923.
JOHN S. PARKER, OF EARLVILLE, NEW YGRK,
PAPER OR CARDBOARD BEBRY BASKET.
Application filed June 6, 1921.
To (IZZ 'LCIOHL it may COHOGWL:
Be it known that I. JOHN S. PARKER, a citizen ot' the United' States, and a resident of Earlville, County of ladison, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Paper or Cardboard Berry Baskets, of Which the following is a specification. i
The objeot of my invent'ion is to prov de a simple basket Which can be shipped in its knoeked down eondition and assembled into its proper condition tor use at the place o't' use, and When assembled this basket Wlll have all the roperties Which are desirable in berry baskets. This and other objects are aeeomplished by my invention, one embodi ment of Which is herenafter more particularly set forth.
F or a more detailed description of my invention, reference is to be had to the accompanyng drawings, forming a part hereoi?, in Whioh- Figure l is a plan view of the blankfrom Which my basket is made, and
Figure 2 is a perspeotive view of the basket.
Throughout the various views ot the drawings, similar reference characters designate similar parte.
The blank 1 from Which my basket 2 is formed is provided With a bottom 3, end flaps 4: With transverse slits 5 and side flaps 6 With tongues '7 with catehes 8, the tongues end eatches being placed at the outer edges ot 35 the. fiaps (S a nd away from the bottom 3 so as to leave a ventilating opening 9 at each side of each .flap 6 and adjacent to the bottom 3.
Serial No. 475,348.
The tongues 7 are thrust through theslots 5 and held by the eatehes 8 Which operate in the Conventional manner.
The bottom 3 is defined by the erease lines 10 Whichsurround the same and separate it from the end flaps and side flaps G and the tongues 7 are separated from the sides 6 by corresponding crease lines li.
W'hen the blanlt l is developed into a basket 2, the sides and ends are tolded in their respective crease lines 10 and the tongues 7 on their crease lines *11, and then these tongues are thrust through the slots 5 and then the eatohes 8 operate to hold the basket erect.
The embodiment o't-my invention herein shown has no cover, but .it is obvious that cover flaps may be providechit desired, or it may be modified in other suitahle Ways, all of Which come within the scope of my invention. as defined in the claim.
What I claim is:
A berry basket oomposed ot' a bottom, slotted ends, sides With tongues engaging said slotted ends and out away portions in said sides and adjacent to said tongues, 'said cut away portions being out so as to form enrved openings Which slope 'towards each other for the greater portion of their distance and then separate and turn towards the tongues so that ample ventilating openings are provided. i
In testimony Whereof, I have herennto set my hand and seal. this 97 day o't l ay, 1921. v
JOHN S. PARKER.
