Abstract

27,124. Roche, H. J. E. A. Dec. 15, 1906, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Gas or explosive-vapour engines.-In oil-engines having a combustion chamber B separated by a narrow neck C from the cylinder D, the capacity of the combustion chamber is adjusted by a piston E controlled by a hand-wheel E<2>, or by the governor. The fuel may be injected into the, neck C. or the chamber B during the compression stroke in four-stroke cycle engines, or during the introduction of compressed air on the instroke in those working on a two-stroke cycle. The Specification, in the original form, as published under the Act of 1901 comprises also a separate combustion chamber B, Fig. 3, in which works a piston H driven from the crank-shaft by a crank at ninety degrees behind the main crank ; the piston may be adjustable relatively to its cross-head. If the combustion chamber is situated at the side of the cylinder the crank of the piston H leads the main crank. The piston H clears the chamber B of combustion products. This subject-matter does not appear in the Complete Specification as accepted.
