Abstract
25,249. Cuff, F. S. Nov. 14. Stays; hinges.-A hood for motor-cars &c. has hoops A, B, C, D, of which A is a base hoop for the purpose of extending the cover beyond the back of the seat U. The hoop A is pivoted at E and has an upwardly extending bracket A<1> and pivot F, to which the hoops B, C are pivoted. The hoop D is pivoted at G to the hoop C, and is extended by means of the joint H. To the.bottom lever J of the joint I is rigidly connected the bent lever K, Fig. 7, by means of the pin L pivoted on the hoop A. The bent lever K has a pin or roller M sliding in a slot Q of the quadrant N. The quadrant is pivoted to a bracket R and has a stop P which forms a rest for the lever K in its top position. A lug O limits the movement of the quadrant, and a similar lug is provided on the front pivot. A spring T, Fig. 5, on the pivot E takes part of the weight of the hood when lowered and assists in the raising of the hood. When the hood is raised, the pin M is at the bottom of the quadrant and when lowered the pin is at the other end.
