Yarns and threads, singeing.--In gassing or singeing machines, the yarn is led through the gassing tube, and when near or within the exhaust conduit, is sharply deflected at the guide g in order to shed the charred fluff. The conduit may be provided with a bell mouth, and may be carried sufficiently high to ensure an efficient updraught instead of being led into an exhaust pipe, as shown. An aperture or slot, provided between the gassing-tube and exhaust conduit, reduces the intensity of the exhaust through the gassing-tube. The guide-eyes are mounted on a frame j so that the yarn may readily be removed from the gassing-tube when winding ceases.
