Motor road vehicles.-The differential gear is locked when desired by clutching the casing carrying the planetary members to one or both of the driven members either automatically or at will. The casing 3, which may be driven at several speeds by means of the gear-wheels 7, 8, 9, carries the planetary pinions 4 and the driven shafts 1, 2. The casing 3 and the driven shaft 2 may be locked together by the clutch 10, 11, the member 11 of which is movable. The clutch may be operated at the will of the driver or in accordance with the adjustment of the steering-mechanism in such a way that the differential gear is in action only when the vehicle is running on a curve.
