Brakes.-In braking-mechanism for motor and other cycles &c., of the type wherein the handlebar is in two parts arranged so that either one or both of them may be turned upwardly to apply one or two brakes, the supporting-lug 1 is formed with a pair of forwardly projecting jaws 3, 4 to carry the handle-bar parts 5, 6 of which one or each is provided with a plate 8 connected to a brake rod 13 passing through a slot 14 in the lug, the pirt 9 of the plate by striking the top of the lug serving as a stop. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the handle-bar part 5 is brazed in the jaw 4 while the part 6 may be turned within the jaw 3, which has a hinged top 7. The plate 8 is carried by a rod 10 secured to the part 6 and projecting into the fixed part 5. If desired, both parts may be arranged to turn for the purpose of operating two brakes independently, or the two parts may be rigidly connected and arranged to operate a single brake. Where a cord or wire is used instead of a brake rod, a guide-pulley may be provided in the slot 14.
