Abstract

9421. ToutÚe, H. April 23. Motor-velocipedes; driving-mechanism.-Relates to two speed gearing for motor-cars &c., particularly applicable to motor-bicycles. Two loose pulleys c, d, Fig. 1, of different diameters are mounted on the driving-shaft a and have belts connecting them to two pulleys e fast on the driven shaft b. The smaller pulley d is provided with a free-wheel ratchet f to connect it to the shaft a. The larger pulley c may be clutched at will to the sbaft a to give the high speed, and when it is unclutched the ratchet and low speed automatically come into action. As applied to motor-bicycles, the larger driving-pulley c, Fig. 3, is mounted so that it can be clutched to the friction cone m, keyed to the shaft a by means of an operating-fork k. Spring- pressed studs p on the cone m operate with a crown ratchet f secured to the smaller pulley d.
