Abstract

4811. Rossiter, J. T. Feb. 27. Centrifugal pumps.- Relates to the fixed guidepassages in multi-stage centrifugal pumps. Fig.1 shows a number of impellers 5 arranged in series on a shaft. Each impeller delivers into a channel 9 formed in a disk or r i n g 6. The channel 9, Fig. 4, leads from the periphery 5<b>, of the impeller, across the disk 6 in an oblique direction, to an annular passage 10 communicating with the suction eye of the next impeller. An annular recess in a disk 7 forms this passage 10 which is bounded by the face of the preceding disk 6. Guide-vanes are arranged in the passage 11 leading to the next impeller. Screws 17 are provided for forcing the rings 6, 7 together endways when assembling, and screws may also be used for ejecting the rings from the casing. The capacity of the pump may be varied by altering the number of sections. In a modification, the parts 6<a>, 7<a> of the rings 6, 7, are not contiuued towards the shaft, as iu Fig. 1, but terminate at the periphery of the impeller parts, Fig. 10. This Figure also shows flanges 6<b> on the rings 6 for bolting the sections together. In another modification, long bolts are passed through both sets of rings for securing purposes. End-thrust is balanced as described in Specification No. 4811<A>, A.D. 1907.
