Abstract
4576. Rawson, C. H., and Buchholtz Reversible Turbine Syndicate. Feb. 25. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Elastic-fluid turbines.-A multiple - expansion reversible turbine of the kind described in Specifications No. 3887, A.D. 1903, and No. 5077, A.D. 1904, is shown in Fig. 1. Rotatable disks 5 mounted on a shaft 2, alternate with fixed disks 6 secured to the casing 1. An annular series of blade passages 11, Fig. 4, is formed in each rotatable disk, and similar guide-passages 12 are formed in the fixed disks. To allow for expansion, the radial depth of the passages increases in a step-like manner, as shown in Fig. 1, or the increase may be gradual. The turbine is made reversible by means of a ring of perforations 18 in each rotatable disk, and a corresponding ring of perforations 19 in each fixed disk, the perforations 18, Fig. 5, being inclined to the plane of the disk, and the perforations 19 being parallel to it. Oppositely arranged inlets 8, 16 and outlets 13, 20 are provided for forward and reversed driving respectively.
