3183. Hazlehurst, A. H. Feb. 8. Door closing and opening apparatus.-Relates to self-closing double swing doors for lift shafts &c., and to means for retaining them in an open or closed position. A bracket a fixed to one half p<1> of the door is provided with an arm connected by a rod g to a bracket f on the other half p. Through the bracket a in alinement with the door hinges is inserted a spindle c connected at its slotted extremity to the free end of a spring d, the other end of which is secured to a slotted spindle e fixed on the door frame q<1>. When the doors are opened, the torsion of the spring, which is adjusted in known manner, effects the closing operation. In order to retain the doors fully or partly open during the presence of the lift cage n, the door p<1> is provided with a ratchet segment r, Fig. 10, adapted to be engaged by the usual spring pawl carried on a bar j which is slid forward in its guides by a cam o on the cage n. As the cage passes away, the bar with its pawl is withdrawn by a spring m to allow the doors to close. The doors are locked when closed by a spring latch and catch. The arrangements above described are also applicable to doors opening in opposite directions.
